Epic

Peterborough Regional Health Centre, along with our partner hospitals across the central east region of Ontario, launched a new clinical information system (CIS) on December 3, 2021.

The launch of this shared system, called Epic, was a major milestone in our history, and will transform the way we provide care for patients across the region.

The new regional CIS will provide:

  • One digital record for each patient across the seven hospital organizations in the central east region.

  • Patient access to a user-friendly and secure portal called MyChart to view their personal health information and upcoming appointments.

  • Timely access to information to support the care team in clinical decision-making, including test results, medication information and other essential health information.

  • Improvements in patient safety features, including barcode identity validation at the patient’s bedside.

  • Less duplication and more efficient processes, contributing to a more sustainable health system.

The CIS system enables seamless access to health information across all seven of our hospital organizations, representing 14 hospitals in the region. In addition to enhancing patient safety and quality, Epic provides every patient who receives hospital care in the region with a single, unified personal health record across the partner hospitals. Every hospital patient and their care team has real-time access to the patient’s health information in one place, which supports the healthcare team in making the best possible decisions about every individual’s treatment and care.

The following seven hospital organizations in Central East Ontario have partnered to implement a shared clinical information system (CIS) to support care for 1.5 million patients across our region:

  • Campbellford Memorial Hospital

  • Haliburton Highlands Health Services

  • Northumberland Hills Hospital

  • Lakeridge Health

  • Peterborough Regional Health Centre

  • Ross Memorial Hospital

  • Scarborough Health Network

Epic is one of the world’s largest electronic health records software companies, and their system has been adopted by hundreds of leading hospitals in North America and Europe, including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, The Ottawa Hospital, SickKids, and Mackenzie Health.
