The Opportunity
Peterborough Regional Health Centre is looking for a Geriatric Psychiatrist to support our Psychiatric Assessment Services for the Elderly program (PASE) and integrated Geriatric Medicine Psychiatric Consultation Liaison (CL) Service.

The outpatient PASE program is located on-site at PRHC,with outreach locations in Northumberland, Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes. PASE offers assessment for those over 65 years experiencing mental health problems and under 65 with early onset dementia. Short-term treatment
and case management services are offered through the program. The PASE Team includes Psychogeriatric Resource Consultants, Consultant Geriatric Psychiatrists, Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Manager and support staff. Opportunities are also available for Psychiatrists as co-therapists in our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Despression-Anxiety Groups.

Our dynamic Geriatric Medicine Psychiatry CL service is supported by three nurses in collaboration with Geriatricians, a Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) worker and substance use support Nurse Practitioner.

A 12-bed Geriatric Assessment Behavioural Unit (GABU) provides care for older adults with dementia and behavioural disturbances. A future Psycho geriatric inpatient unit is currently being planned, where there will be opportunity to provide regular Psychiatric support and leadership.

Additional Programs
A 24-bed adult inpatient unit, supported by full-time social work, occupational therapy, psychology and therapeutic programming. A six-bed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (CAPU) provides a regional service for children and adolescents with serious mental health concerns requiring assessment and stabilization.

PRHC also has a three-bed Crisis Response Unit (CRU) located in the Emergency Department, with nursing staff providing 24-hour crisis assessments and monitoring. Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and Four Counties Addictions Services Team (Fourcast) are located on the unit and provide short-term case management for patients living
in the community.

We offer a diverse range of outpatient mental health programs across all stages of life, which includes evidence-based individual and group psychotherapies, outreach services and psychiatric management. Subspecialty clinics include Adult Outpatient (AOP); Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI); Psychosis Assessment and Treatment Clinic; Eating Disorder Program and the Family and Youth Clinic. A Developmental Disabilities Consulting Program (DDCP) affiliated with Queens University is available through our outpatient program and Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic are also part of our program with community partners.
Psychological testing is also available for inpatients and outpatient services.

Our Neurostimulation Program includes Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) with plans to introduce repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) in 2020.

Our department is a designated teaching site for trainees at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, affiliated through Queens and McMaster University and University of Toronto, with opportunities for faculty appointments. Leadership opportunities may be available.

Qualifications
• Currently registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or willing to obtain registration
• Currently registered with or eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Fellow Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or eligible
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with physicians, nursing, staff, patients, directors, managers, and the community as required
• Demonstrated analytical ability
• Actively encourage a spirit of co-operation amongst team members
• Eligible for staff privileges at Peterborough Regional Health Centre
• Evidence of ongoing continued medical education
