PRHC is committed to making it easier for people who have disabilities to use hospital services. If you have any concerns or comments about accessibility at PRHC for people who have disabilities, please contact Patient Relations at 743-2121, ext. 3674.

The Health Centre's current Accessibility Policy and Accessibility Plan can be downloaded from our Document Archive here. Accessibility documents can be provided by the Health Centre upon request, and in alternate formats as required.

Accommodations at PRHC
The Health Centre will make every effort to place you in your requested accommodation (ward, semi private, private) upon admission. Admitting or Cashier's Office staff will require you to sign for the type of accommodation requested. If your choice of room is unavailable when you are admitted, you will be moved when a bed is available.
It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider to determine what insurance coverage you have. OHIP covers only standard ward care for Ontario Residents with a valid OHIP card. You will be responsible for all charges on requested accommodations not covered by OHIP or your insurance provider.
If you wish to change your type of accommodation or you have any financial questions, please contact the Cashier's Office.

Hospital Administration is open during normal business hours. The offices are located on W4, or phone: 743-2121 extension 3903.
Admitting Information
Located right inside the main entrance of the hospital on Level 4. Open 24 hours, seven days a week. Contact: 743-2121 extension 3103.
You are welcome to bring your electric razors and hair dryers, but they must be checked and approved by building services before being used. Ask your nurse to arrange this check. Battery-operated appliances are preferred.
Bank Machine
24-hour bank machines are located in several areas in the hospital. Please ask for locations at the information desk.
Bicycle Racks
Please park your bike in the racks provided. Be sure to lock it. The Health Centre is not responsible for theft or damage.
Book carts circulate on nursing units with paperbacks and magazines several times per week.
The Cafeteria is located on Level 4, just inside the Main Entrance of the hospital. Tim Hortons is located on Level 3.

Diagnostic Imaging / X-ray

Elevators are located throughout the Health Centre. If you are unsure which elevator to take, please ask at the information desk inside the front doors on Level 4.

Fire Exits
Fire exits are clearly marked throughout the Health Centre.
During a fire alarm, remain in your area unless instructed by staff or fire department personnel.

Health Information

Infection Prevention & Control
Preventing infection in a health care setting is very important. An infection can be inconvenient, cause additional illness and lengthen hospital stay.
Tips to Reduce Your Risk of Infection:

  • Wash your hands well and often. Hand washing is the single most important method to prevent the spread of germs.
  • WASH: after using the toilet - after covering a cough or sneeze - before eating and drinking - when your hands become soiled.
  • HOW TO WASH: wet hands - add soap and rub all surfaces for 15 - 30 seconds - rinse well under running water - dry hands with paper towel and use paper towel to turn off taps - discard paper towel. Hand sanitizer is also available for use throughout the hospital
  • Encourage your family and visitors to wash their hands before and after their visit with you.
  • Ask family and visitors (children included) who are ill to reschedule their visit for when they are feeling better.
  • Ask visitors to closely supervise small children.
  • Ask your doctor about your special vaccination needs.
  • Keep yourself as healthy as possible: good nutrition - adequate exercise, rest and sleep - good personal hygiene.

Information Desk
The information desk is located beside Admitting on the Level 4. To contact the main information desk, please dial 876-5017. Our volunteers are available provide any assistance you may need. 

Information Telephones
Information telephones are conveniently located at the main floor entrance to give visitors and patients information about patient rooms and services.

Interpreters for the Hearing Impaired
Sign language interpreters can be booked by calling The Canadian Hearing Society at 743-1573. The hospital TTY number is 876-5141. Other aids are available at PRHC to assist people with hearing loss. Please contact a Speech-Language Pathologist for assistance.

Lost and Found
To ask about or turn in a misplaced article, call Security at 743-2121 x.3186

Ask your friends and relatives to clearly address mail or parcels with your full name and room number to:

Mail is delivered to patients twice daily. A Canada Post mailbox is located on site. Stamps can be purchased at the hospital gift shop.

Multi-Faith Centre
Members of our hospital spiritual care team are available seven days a week. After hours, we provide on-call service available through Switchboard. It is important that you let your own spiritual care provider know of your hospitalization so that they will know to visit you during your hospital stay.
Mutual Respect

Local and national newspapers are available from coin boxes outside the hospital's main entrance.

Nutrition Services
Most patients will receive their meals by tray service during the following times:
Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
Lunch: 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Supper: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
If you would like to be assessed by a dietitian or dietetic technician, please inform your nurse.

Televisions and Integrated Bedside Terminals (IBTs)
PRHC is proud to offer Integrated Bedside Terminal (IBT) through TELUS, for inpatient use. For safety reasons, personal televisions are not permitted. To contact the Integrated Bedside Terminal representatives or get help if you are experiencing technical difficulties, follow the instructions, or call the number on the screen.

Please leave money, credit cards, jewelry and valuable papers at home. Dentures and eyeglasses are valuable too, please keep them safe! Peterborough Regional Health Centre is not responsible for any lost or stolen valuables.

Vending machines
Vending machines are currently available in the following locations throughout the Health Centre:

  • Emergency Department
  • Cafeteria
  • Unit D1
  • Level W5
