“I absolutely love being a part of the entire patient journey – from initial stroke onset to improving functionality and quality of life for stroke survivors,” says Cindy Hill, an advanced practice nurse on PRHC’s stroke medicine and rehabilitation team. “Working at PRHC has given me great job satisfaction. I love collaborating with all of the clinicians to provide quality stroke care to our community members.”
A typical day for Cindy begins with rounding in the Emergency Department (ED) and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to identify any new patients who have had a stroke and assess the quality of care delivered, including timelines for brain imaging, clot-busting medication delivery, and transfers to Toronto for endovascular therapy or clot retrieval.
In this role, Cindy supports staff across the hospital with stroke care delivery, develops up-to-date stroke education for care providers, provides information and education sessions for patients and families, maintains quality stroke order sets and documentation in collaboration with stroke experts, and consults with patients to explain the type of stroke they have had, its causes, and secondary prevention strategies.
This summer, Cindy will retire from PRHC after an incredible 34-year career of providing stroke care. Congratulations, Cindy, and thank you for your many years of dedication and hard work!
