PROMOTING EXCELLENCE IN SENIORS’ CARE

Over the past decade, PRHC has worked to develop a Seniors’ Care Centre of Excellence and a comprehensive seniors’ care strategy.

The Peterborough region is among the fastest-growing communities in the country, as well as the oldest population demographically in Canada, with 22 per cent of local residents over the age of 65. As our community continues to grow and age, as our patients’ healthcare needs evolve and become more complex, it is critical that we continue to transform, innovate and invest in programs and partnerships that will ensure we are able to provide the best possible care and support for our older adult patients, today and into the future.

PRHC’s Seniors’ Care Centre of Excellence delivers high-quality care, tailored to individual needs, and is founded on evidence-informed, senior-friendly principles and practices, including:

  • Delirium prevention

  • Patient-centred, ethical care

  • Caregiver involvement

  • Mobilization/falls prevention

  • Therapeutic engagement

  • “Home first” philosophy

  • Enhancing knowledge of senior-friendly care

  • Multidisciplinary approach

The team at PRHC, together with the collaboration and support of our community partners, has already reached so many important milestones as part of our seniors’ care strategy and this area of care continues to be a priority for PRHC.
