PRHC Volunteer Rika Seshadri honoured for 40 years of service
“Volunteering makes you really feel like you belong, and that feeling is important for everybody. You need to belong somewhere,” said Rika Seshadri when asked what inspired her to start volunteering at Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) 40 years ago.
Rika is one of more than 500 dedicated hospital volunteers at PRHC who are being celebrated this week for their countless contributions.
Rika joined Peterborough Civic Hospital in 1981 as a volunteer porter, helping to move patients between locations inside the hospital. In the years since then, she has held a wide variety of volunteer roles at the Health Centre, and this past year, Rika chose to stay on-site during the pandemic, her work shifting to support the hospital’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
“After volunteering for 40 years here, the hospital is my second home. My friends are here, my community,” she says. “I’m proud of the years I’ve volunteered at PRHC. I wouldn’t have done it any other way and I hope I can continue volunteering at the hospital for years to come.”
Volunteers like Rika provide more than 75,000 hours of service to the Health Centre each year to support our healthcare team, working both directly and indirectly with patients and their families, supporting our healthcare professionals and staff to provide exceptional care.
Thank you to all of our volunteers for everything you do for our patients and their families, for this hospital and for our community and region. Learn more about volunteering at PRHC and consider applying today.
