No additional positive cases on affected unit since three initial cases in staff members were identified; all others tested on affected unit negative for COVID-19
Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is pleased to report that an outbreak of COVID-19 on an inpatient unit has been declared over by Peterborough Public Health.
The outbreak involved three staff members on the inpatient unit who tested positive for COVID-19 and who self-isolated with mild symptoms at home. These staff members will return to work once they have no symptoms and have tested negative for COVID-19 twice.
All PRHC healthcare workers continue to use appropriate infection prevention and control measures to prevent the spread of illness in the hospital environment, including frequent hand-cleaning, wearing surgical masks in all public and patient-facing areas, and additional personal protective equipment (or PPE) as required to perform their work.
One hospital inpatient with COVID-19 has been transferred out of the ICU
PRHC is also pleased to report that one of two hospitalized inpatients with COVID-19 has now been transferred out of the ICU to a bed on an inpatient unit.
PRHC urges community to remain vigilant to prevent the spread of COVID-19
While there are signs Ontario and the rest of Canada have begun to “flatten the curve” of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important for everyone to continue taking measures to prevent the spread of illness. Staying home and going out only as needed, maintaining social distancing of two metres in public areas and cleaning your hands well and frequently all continue to be essential.
All enhanced pandemic measures continue to be in place at PRHC.
PRHC has now tested more than 2000 people for COVID-19, and we are asking people with new or worsening symptoms of illness to contact the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 705-876-5086 to determine whether an assessment is necessary.
