As Easter approaches, Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is reminding the community that, out of respect for our patients, visitors and staff, the hospital has a ‘No Scents’ policy in place.
PRHC is dedicated to providing a healthy care environment for our patients, and a healthy working environment for our staff, physicians and volunteers. Many individuals have sensitivities to scents and/or chemicals, which can trigger migraines, dizziness, nausea, skin irritation and anxiety, among other symptoms.
We ask the members of our community to respect this policy when visiting the hospital by ensuring that strong scents are not worn or used, and that highly-fragrant flowers are not brought into the building.
Common scent triggers include perfumes, body lotions, sprays, colognes and cigarette smoke. Examples of highly fragrant flowers include lilies, lilacs, peonies, roses, gardenias, lavender and hyacinth.
Visitors who give off strong scents of any kind may be asked to leave the hospital, and flower deliveries that do not respect the “No Scents” policy will be sent home with the visitor who brought them.
With Easter weekend approaching, the hospital is asking local florists to keep this policy in mind when helping customers select flower arrangements for loved ones. We also encourage hospital visitors to notify their florist that the arrangement is intended for delivery to the hospital, and remind them that there is a “No Scents” policy in place, before making their purchase.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind the community that latex balloons are not permitted in the health centre. Any balloons brought into the hospital must be made of foil or Mylar.
The hospital’s gift shop carries a wide variety of gift options appropriate for hospital patients. All proceeds from the hospital’s gift shop support PRHC Foundation fundraising initiatives.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and healthy environment at PRHC.
