Spiritual Health Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate Spiritual Care Practitioners for their dedication and commitment to the well-being of others.
PRHC is fortunate to have two (2) Spiritual Care Practitioners, Nicholas Mann and Ron Mahler, who offer spiritual support to patients and accompany them and their families through their healthcare journey. They also offer support to staff in the context of the workplace, to help them process such things as stress, traumatic events, and other issues.
Spiritual Care providers are regulated health professionals who are part of the healthcare team. They support and serve people of any faith, as well as those of no particular faith, and are respectful of different cultural traditions and religious backgrounds.
Spiritual Care providers can help by:
- Offering spiritual and emotional support during hospitalization
- Listening to your concerns within the confidential circle of care
- Praying, meditating or reflecting with you
- Helping you access spiritual care resources and connect with community faith leaders
- Providing and facilitating specific rituals, including at the end of life
“PRHC is committed to expanding its spiritual and religious understanding to be more inclusive, and this makes me enjoy working here,” says Nicholas. “As someone who feels called to support the spiritual-religious needs of people in transition and crisis, PRHC is an environment where I am a part of teams committed to serving these and other needs for our community.”
“PRHC is a very friendly, inclusive, and dedicated environment in which to work,” says Ron. “The staff are very helpful and largely knowledgeable and supportive of our presence and services as Spiritual Care Providers. I also feel ‘needed’ and valued here as a person and professional by the various disciplinary teams and leadership.”
