“PRHC has been a fantastic place to work. Being able to work on cutting-edge and next-generation technology has been great, and I can see the direct impact it is having to improve patient care,” says Andrew Wiechenthal, a Systems Analyst in the Information Technology (IT) department at PRHC.
Andrew has worked at PRHC for more than eight (8) years on a small team that offers day-to-day and emergency support for technology service across the hospital. His everyday role involves providing technical support for several third-party systems, virtual private networks, firewalls, server management, server implementation, backup management, and the hospital’s overall electronic security.
“Each day at PRHC can be completely different; I can be involved in a number of different projects, meetings with external vendors as well as internal departments, training, and following up on support tickets that users have submitted.”
In 2021, Andrew had an important role in supporting the launch of PRHC’s clinical information system, Epic: “It was exciting and rewarding when it all came together and went live!” He now does a lot of work to support PRHC’s Laboratory and Pharmacy teams, working to ensure there is connectivity to receive orders from and send patient results to Epic.
“The advancements and upgrades with technology in the healthcare sector have been amazing to see,” says Andrew. “Technology now plays an even more crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the hospital.”
