Aligned with the recent provincial direction to expand and enhance testing for COVID-19 across Ontario, Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is asking community members to contact the COVID-19 Assessment Centre at 705-876-5086 if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms of respiratory illness (even if mild):

  • Fever/chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose
  • Nasal congestion
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Unexplained headache
  • Joint/muscle aches
  • Loss of taste or smell

If your symptoms are severe, call 911 and alert the dispatcher to your travel history and symptoms.

PRHC has now tested more than 1300 people for COVID-19
Our COVID-19 Assessment Centre phone line is staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. Assessments are available by appointment only, and patients should attend the Assessment Centre only as directed after calling the above number. Visitors are not permitted in the COVID-19 Assessment Centre.

What to expect at PRHC’s COVID-19 Assessment Centre
Patients who have an appointment scheduled should present to the Assessment Centre at least 10 minutes prior to their appointment time. Patients coming for assessment should clean their hands and apply a face mask as directed when entering the Assessment Centre. Hospital staff will complete the assessment, and testing will be administered according to Ministry of Health guidelines depending on the results of the assessment. Not all patients who are assessed will be tested for COVID-19.

Following their assessment, patients will be directed on next steps, which may include self-monitoring instructions, returning home to self-isolate while waiting for test results, or remaining at the hospital for further assessment.

Are you from a community outside of Peterborough?
Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg and Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay also provide COVID-19 testing for local residents at their respective Assessment Centres. Instructions to access the Haliburton Highlands Assessment Centre can be found here and residents in the Trent Hills area can find instructions for booking an assessment here.
